Maigret's Bacon Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup dry milk powder
  • 1/2 cup wheat germ
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup bacon grease
  • 2 tablespoons chicken broth
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup ice water

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. In a kitchen mixer fitted with a dough hook, combine the ingredients and mix thoroughly. Roll out the biscuit mixture onto a floured work surface creating a ¼ to 1/3 inch thickness. Using a cookie cutter (or a butter knife and your imagination!), cut out desired biscuit shapes and place on a baking sheet. Bake approximately 20 to 25 minutes or until done. Remove from the oven, transfer to a cooling rack. Store in an airtight bag.
