Organic Certification

One of the most important features of The Olive Tree World's products is that our growers farm organically without the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Their farms are regularly inspected and certified by the approved certifying agency for organic products strictly in accordance with European Union regulations.

The Organic Farming Techniques for olive production used by our suppliers are as follows.

Plant nutrition: Soil fertility is achieved by regular distribution of organic compost consisting of animal manure and nitrogen-rich plant material.

Weed control: Weeds are eliminated by using the mechanical cultivation process of grinding and crushing them into the soil.

Pest control: Specially designed traps for the olive fly are hung on the trees in the summer to avoid any chemical pesticide application.

European Union Organic Certification: The European Union Directive 2092/91 regulates organic production methods that mandate restrictions on the use of unnatural fertilizers and pesticides, which are believed to have detrimental effects on the environment and on the products themselves. In order for a farm to be certified as organic by the E.U., organic farming regulations must be implemented for a minimum of three years before the first harvest of olives can qualify as "organic". Thereafter, all organic farmers are subject to regular and continuing inspections by designated E.U. authorities. These provisions are necessary for the Organic certification to appear on the label of the final product.
